Slick Sand primer by Evercoat was carefully measured and activated. We then sprayed two thin coats on the panels. Here, the lower attachment point was checked for clearance against the amprack. The panels were then sanded down and taped for two-tone using Blue Ocean Mist candy paint and old-school pin striping. Sony logos were also hand painted and can be viewed through the rear quarter windows. Trace lines were drawn on the panel for the 11/42" acrylic pieces that highlighted the speaker installation.
Five coats of Xotic Blue Candy (www.xoticcolours.com) were applied to two-tone the panel. Half-inch acrylic was cut down and the edges chamfered to highlight the speaker installation. The primer was allowed to dry and was wet-sanded with 220-grit 3M Gold sandpaper. Both side panels were removed and prepped for primer. The panels were shot with 2K primer and then light-sanded. I sprayed seven different basecoats to create the custom silver color with flake and cleared the panel with five coats of Rober clearcoat. The panels were sanded down again before the graphics and logo were painted. Each of the Xplod logos were hand painted with red flake.
The finished panels have a beautiful, integrated fit and finish.
