Next we'll transfer the insert part onto our sandstone gray suede. Note: When cutting out inserts, cut them oversized to allow for shrinkage (on 11/42" foam one stitch line shrinks about 11/48"). Mark all top stitch lines with chalk and lay the suede onto 11/42" foam tricot backing, holding it in place with foam and fabric spray. Now sew all the lines on the suede insert and afterward trace the insert pattern onto the suede and cut it out. Now that the seat cover is all sewn up, it's time to install it. Start by installing the wire rods that we saved earlier. Then locate the seat cover to the foam pad and fasten with hog rings where necessary.
Rick is ready to install the seatback cover by installing the wire rods first. At this point locate the seat cover to the foam pad but fasten the hog rings only to the uppermost horizontal wire rod and, on the side rods, fasten hog rings from the top down about 6". This will allow the seat cover to be pulled over the top of the frame fairly easily. Now sew the accent piping trim on the outer edge of the bolsters and sew each bolster to its outboard panel. Finally, pull the upholstery over the seat frame and fasten the underside to the spikes. Next, sew the bolsters to the insert.
Let's check it out. Sporty man!
Rick is done putting the front passenger seat together. Let's see what we got. This seat is rockin'! Hey, no wonder they call him Rockin' Rick! He even put his seal of approval on it. Great job, Rick, what's next?
