Dynaudio Esotar
Evolving from the company's Esotar home system models, the Esotar take on the role as dynaudio's reference flagship components. The Esotar 110 tweeter features a coated 28mm (1.1") textile soft dome, neodymium magnet and cNc-machined metal housing with a damping back chamber. The 17cm (6.5") diameter Esotar 650 midrange/bass driver relies on a rigid, die-cast aluminum frame, a large 75mm (3") voice coil and dynaudio's characteristic mSP diaphragm. as good as the company's Esotec systems sound, we can't wait to hear these. www.dynaudiousa.com
Pioneer TS-D
Paper trumps rock, right? Not according to Pioneer. The new TS-d line of speakers boast woofer cones made with basalt, a type of volcanic rock. The rock is pulverized, melted at 2,700 degrees and drawn into lightweight fibers. it's then combined with aramid fibers and ceramic to reinforce the TS-d's composite imPP woofer cones, said to open and smooth the frequency response. Balancing out the systems, the woofers are mated with a pair of softdome tweeters via passive crossover networks. www.pioneerelectronics.com
Boston Acoustics Pro SE
Taking cues from SPz, Boston's Flagship series, the Pro SE features an aggressive industrial design. it also borrows key technology enhancements, such as the adoption of the SPz's unique 1" hardanodized alloy dome tweeter. The highfrequency solution combines with 6.5" or 5.25" woofers that use exceptionally strong, low-mass copolymer cones with neodymium-motor systems and Pro SE crossovers featuring low-tolerance components. included provisions also allow for coaxial-style mounting if desired. www.bostonacoustics.com
Earthquake Focus
The Focus line of speakers consists of five models ranging from 4" to 6x9 in size, with swiveling 20mm high-frequency silk-dome tweeters. We're told the speakers were designed to deliver a smooth, fast and accurate musical product by using low-mass, high-strength poly injection cones and high-flow stamped steel baskets. Speaker surrounds are wider and pushed outward so that the "piston area" is better utilized, thus enhancing the midbass output. www.earthquakesound.com
RE audio XXX6.5c
Here's a set that caught our attention. The XXX6.5c component set's mid-woofer features an unusually deep motor for a mid. out back is a potent neodymium-powered magnetic structure that's said to propel the mids moving assembly with extreme force. its unique split coil design enables the mid to achieve over 1" of linear travel. The 1" silk-dome tweeter is no slouch either, housed in a beefy aluminum casing with a large inner heatsink for increased power consumption. www.reaudio.com
Audison Thesis TH
With the introduction of the TH Series loudspeaker system, audison can now provide "voice" to the company's Thesis amplifiers. The TH Series pulls out all the stops in both engineering and cosmetic design, right down to the optimized profile of the cone and the proprietary translucent dust cap design on the 3.5" VocE and 6.5" SaX. The 1.5" VioliNo tweeter was designed following radical "audiophile" criteria with features such as a rEN neo magnet, differentiated damping back decompression chamber and diecast aluminum frame. components will be available separately or as a system. www.audison.com
