We installed the T605 module on the center stack, below the head unit. It was within arm's reach. The buttons on the module are self-explanatory and intuitive with volume up and down, call and end call functions. Pairing up our test phones proved to be quite simple.
While the music through our A2DP phone was decent it was only slightly better than listening to music via FM mod. We like the idea of having music in our phones and being able to access those files, but we like our CDs or even iPods with lossless files even better. Still, it's nice to have the option. And for a retail price of $179.99 this is on the inexpensive side in terms of getting hands-free with A2DP. Check with your dealer on the cost of installation. The T605 is simple, but successful in fulfilling the functions it set out to accomplish. -Eric Holdaway
Parrot MK6100 $239.99
Parrot is not the global name that Nokia or Motorola is, but nonetheless is well-known for its Bluetooth kits. And rightly so. Overall, the MK6100 is a well above average product. I would definitely recommend this product to consumers as it is a high-quality unit with many useful features, such as audio playback from your A2DP Bluetooth phone.
Having said the above, I should point out, however, that there were a couple of issues with the MK6100 during the evaluation. Though Parrot employs a noise reduction and echo cancellation technology, people I talked to over the system had some difficulty hearing me clearly, saying I sounded like a robot. Parrot's tech support said that since I had custom mounted the control that has the mics' built-in it would not work correctly. It requires 1.5" to 2" of clearance from behind to work optimally-something to keep in mind when you discuss your options with your installer. But in the manual I couldn't find this indicated. After experimenting with the mic placement I could be heard much better.
The other issue I had was the caller ID function. Tech support suggested updating the software on the Parrot unit. This would be done via a computer equipped with Bluetooth.
The highlight on the MK6100 is the control screen. It has high visibility day or night due to its good contrast level. The wireless remote control is also very good with its ease of use. The control knob makes it easy to navigate through menus and settings. Answering and ending calls is just a push of a button. And as the remote is wireless, your mounting options are limitless.
The menu structure is very well laid out, controls and settings are easy to get to and through because of the voice menu structure. The phone book is also easy to use while driving. Names are called out when you scroll through them, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road, which is, of course, the main point behind getting a Bluetooth product. Kudos to Parrot. -Tim Olsen
