CA&E: How did you get involved with Pioneer for SPL competition?S.O.: They were looking for someone to help them with developing their new SPL product.
CA&E: How is your hearing?S.O.: What? Actually it is really good, believe it or not. Our cars are all sealed up so they are not that loud outside.
CA&E: What organizations are you involved with?S.O.: dB Drag, USACi, IASCA, MECA
CA&E: What class do you compete in?S.O.: We have two cars: our F250 is in Extreme 5+ and our Scion xB is in Extreme 2.
CA&E: What is the highest SPL you have accomplished? In which vehicle?S.O.: 182.8 in USACi with the F250.
CA&E: What records do you currently hold? In what organization?S.O.: dB Drag Extreme 5+, 179.6; USACi Legal B&K, 180.5; USACi Super Modified Extreme, 182.8; IASCA Ultimate 3, 180.3; MECA, 180.3
CA&E: What is your current competition vehicle?S.O.: 2002 Ford F250
CA&E: How long did the install take you?S.O.: Being a competition car, they are never done. We have been working on it since 2002.
CA&E: How often are you altering the system?S.O.: Every week.
CA&E: Who are the people who have helped you with your current competition vehicle?S.O.: Pioneer, Scosche, Ohio Generator, Kinetik, American Racing wheels and Toyo tires.
CA&E: Do you believe you will break another world record this year at finals? If so, what dB?S.O.: I always believe that I will. As far as a number... one... oh, I don't want to jinx myself.
CA&E: How long do you want to continue competing?S.O.: Until it stops being fun.
CA&E: Do you have any advice for those who want to get into or advance in SPL competition?S.O.: You have to work harder than everybody else if you want to beat them.
CA&E: What would you like Scott Owens to be known for?S.O.: Advancing dB Drag to new levels and always being a good competitor that was willing to talk with and help everyone.
