2008 Scion xD
Bringing another model into their stable of hip rides, Scion introduces the 2008 Scion xD, a five-door subcompact that slightly resembles a blend between the Toyota Matrix and a Prius. The aggressive styling includes a wide stance, accentuated wheel flares for the 16" rims and large tires. Designed with handling and comfort in mind, it has a short, wide frame, and L-arm type of MacPherson strut in the front and torsion beam suspension in the rear. Under the hood 1.8L four-cylinder engine pumps 128 hp. The 2ZR-FE engine features a roller rocker system and lightweight piston for better fuel economy and a piston cooling oil jet for better efficiency.
Inside the Scion designers went after a clean, futuristic style. Right behind the steering well is a large circular gauge that serves as a speedometer and tachometer. As for audio, the xD comes with a standard 160-watt Pioneer system that features easy iPod connectivity through a mini-jack port beneath the HVAC control. Upgrade to the optional premium audio system for more perks such as the ability to download images and videos from the Pioneer website and upload them onto the head unit's OEL screen. Users can also upload their own content using the included Pioneer software. The optional premium system also has rear head unit outputs to add amps and subs to the six included speakers (a tweeter and mid on each front door panel and two fullranges in the rear. You can also upgrade to the Scion navigation system. All systems have three pre-set equalizer settings, satrad compatibility, and MP3 and WMA capability.

2008 Scion xB
With the introduction of the sub compact xD, Scion's distinctive xB has beefed up. Scion engineers increased the wheelbase by 4", overall length by a foot and the width by almost 3". Combine that with larger 16" wheels, a MacPherson strut front and rear torsion beam suspension, and you've got a smoother more comfortable ride. To match the bigger vehicle, Scion revved up its engine to produce 158 hp, 55 more than the previous generation.
Styling has changed as well, with soft angles between the wide, flat panels the elongated headlamps that wrap around the side of the vehicle, tinted rear windows and turn signals integrated into the mirrors. Inside, the designers had an eye towards comfort, without sacrificing style. Gauges stack up on the center console and glow with a deep orange amid the silver-toned dash pieces.
An upgraded sound system from Pioneer is one of the highlights of the car. The six speakers may not be enough for Scion's youthful following, so you can upgrade to the optional premium audio system. This features rear head unit outputs, which allow you to hook on external amps for additional speakers and subwoofers. An additional option is the Scion navigation system. Whether you choose the standard or the premium system, the xB is geared towards iPod compatibility with the mini-jack port easily accessible. Audio control buttons on the steering wheel allow the customer to control the music without having to reach across to the receiver. The xB also has all the cool audio features found in the xD.
