If you don't already know what the Winter Music Conference is, just imagine the biggest DJ's in the world in one city for a week of parties at the start of Spring Break. Over 80,000 people flock annually to balmy Florida to experience the biggest music educational event of the year at WMC.
We had the opportunity to attend a couple of hot joints including our sister publication's 3-day event called the Remix Hotel (see www.remixhotel.com). They pulled in over 3,500 people who were able to attend free just by signing up on-site. This is one of three Remix magazine events that happen throughout the year. Several vendors including Motorola, Pro Tools, Shure, XM Satellite Radio, Vestax, etc. were on hand showcasing new products and schooling us on what's hot in the world of music technology. It was cool, but just wait until next year, we have a little something in the makes...

Each day Remix hosted a pool party for different genres of music with the best DJ's around: Day 1: Hip Hop: Beat Junkies, Gunkhole, Jazzy Jay, Beatboxers, DJ Klever...Day 2: Drum&Bass: JuJu, Reid Speed, DB, Dara, Klute, And High Contrast. Day 3: Trance: Deepsky, Junkie XL. So, picture free booze, half-naked chicks dancing around, and the dopest DJ's slammed cuts left and right! All I can say is two thumbs up.
Another HOT event we went to worth mentioning was the DanceStar Music Awards honoring the world's hottest dance music DJ's, producers, and movers & shakers like Paul Van Dyke, Bad Boy Bill, Josh Wink, Boy George, Maurice Joshua and others. Several celebrities were walking the Red Carpet and we were able to snap a few.
Lastly, we were invited to attend a very exclusive event, the HARD HAT PARTY@Nocturnal Nightclub which was a debut of Miami's newest megaclub. Our friends at Nocturnal gave us and about 400 of Miami's tastemakers a glimpse of what is going to be known as a new breed of nightclub. This venue has three floors with one of the most elaborate layouts I have ever seen. Being a promoter and nightclub connoisseur myself, I'd have to say "kudos" on the design. Check them out at www.nocturnalnightclubmiami.com.
In a nutshell, WMC is the place to be the first week of March for all music lovers and clubheads. If you're attending the actual conference there are great workshops, seminars, and opportunities for networking. If you just need a place to party, stay in South Beach and it is everywhere you look.
Special thanks during WMC go out to: Angela @ Remix Mag, Oakley @ Shure, Marc, Gary, and Glen @ Nocturnal Nightclub, Robin @ DanceStar, Claudia @ Crobar, Lisa, Blondie, Kathryn, Stella, and Ling from the Chi -- and can't forget B for sending me.
