Sound Stage - Rating: 1-5 - Music & Multimedia CD/DVD/Game Reviews
Primus They Can't All Be Zingers Music Sound Quality "Primus sucks!" This is high praise from Primus fans - and we heartily concur. The cheeky cover promises good things within, whether or not you fancy plastic-wrapped slices of American cheese. Despite the band's claim that They Can't All Be Zingers, this collection of 13 classic songs comes pretty damn close. Tommy the Cat and Jerry the Racecar Driver are enduring hits that will last as long as there are rock fans. -tired ant | Test Drive Unlimited Xbox 360 (also for PS2, PSP, Windows) Eden Games for Atari In the sheer nuts and bolts of racing gamery, TDU is not all that special. The graphics of Hawaii roads and scenes are below average for a next-gen console game. The handling is a little too sensitive. The engines don't seem to purr quite right. All of that aside, Test Drive is an unmistakably fun game. Driving around the island is actually more amusing than racing. You can weave around slow-moving geriatrics and soccer moms; and their slug-mobiles make your ride seem that much faster. All in all, Test Drive is a nice ride once broken in. -DC Gott | Loco Roco PSP Loco Roco may appear to be a game for kids, but in fact it's so deliberately child-like in nature and presentation that it would take an adult to fully appreciate its charm. Gameplay difficulty is well balanced, so it's simple yet challenging enough to provide quite a few hours of surprisingly interesting fun. The animation has a psychedelic feel to it and the audio has an almost weird spooky quality that adds a welcome dimension to the game. -tired ant | AATV Offroad Fury Pro PSP ATV Offroad has upped the ante with every new version of the game. ATV Offroad Fury Pro is no exception. This is one of the best in the series. There are plenty of new bikes and other off-road vehicles for variety. And with over 60 tracks, there's enough to keep you occupied for a full race season. Online play, improved graphics and better control make it a great all-around game - and that makes it real easy to buy yet another iteration of ATV. -Billy Cook | Gangs Of London PSP Can't get enough gangster action? This isn't quite Godfather or Scarface, but it has its upsides. You can choose from five different gangs bosses and engage in about 60 missions. There are a variety of challenges including driving, shooting and tactical. Additionally, you'll find mini-games like Strategy Card, Tourist mode, British pub games (pool, cards, darts, chess and skittles). The graphic-novel-like sequences provide a nice artistic touch to complement gameplay. -Billy Cook | NCAA Football 2007Xbox360Is there such a thing as going too far to get real-life elements incorporated into our sports games? NCAA Football 2007 lets you do it all. That means keeping your players on the field by maintaining decent GPAs. Hey, if that helps your player become a smarter footballer then why not? The '07 version is a marginal improvement on the previous generation, but if you're a hardcore NCAA fanatic, that won't even matter. Gameplay could be better. As is, it's passable with a few minor glitches. -XD | Killzone: Liberation PSP There are so many shooter games it's becoming mind-numbing. The newest Killzone has an advantage over the competition in that it was already a pretty distinctive and worthy game prior to being developed for PSP. This version has 16 missions with returning characters that include Templar and the Helghasts, of course. The best new part of Killzone, apart from the helpful third person point of view, is the addition of some really cool weapons. I'm sure we all can agree that you can never have enough weapons. And we can't get enough of Killzone. -XD | | |
