Lenny KravitzLennyRock
Good ol' American rock and roll mixed with a little funk and R&B. Lenny's been perfecting the formula and he does not let us down with his latest project entitled "Lenny". It's great to see that after everything this guy has been through, and after so many albums he can still rock. Track 9, "Dig In", is supposed to be his hit single off this album, but I'm not too sure about that. There are a few other songs on this CD that are much stronger. It's wild to see the diversity of Kravitz fans. Many like him for his style; guys like him for his rock music; half the girls like him for his R&B flavored love songs; and the other half of the girls like him for his looks alone. The amazing part of it is that the fans who buy his albums because he rocks don't mind listening to the songs that may be a bit slow for their style. Lenny is one of the only artists I know that can do any kind of music he wants and still get over and be respected for it. Trust me, regardless of what type of music you're into, this CD will probably have what your looking for. Check him out on the Web at www.lennykravitz.com. -chux
The Mad Capsule MarketsOscillator in DistortionRock/Punk Rock/Gabber
This CD is for hardcore music lovers only. If you're one of them, then get it. I've played "Oscillator" for many of my friends who are big fans of punk and hard rock and they were all won over. The Mad Capsule Markets are a group of four guys from Japan that blend rock, punk rock, and hardcore techno (also known as gabber). A few of the songs are in English and a few in Japanese. As hard as these guys rock, you really don't care what the language is. It's not like you can understand most of the rock stars these days anyway! If you put this disc in your computer you can watch their video for track 3, "Pulse", one of my favorites - it's like punk rock mixed with some drum and bass. The video is pretty amazing with some very cool computer animation. Track 1, "Tribe", starts out like techno, but once the rest of the band comes in, it takes on a Rob Zombie feel. "Out/Definition", sounds like a gabber tune mixed with some live guitars. Track 6, "All The Time In Sunny Beach" is straight punk: fast beats, fast vocals, with a smooth catchy chorus. Track 7 starts out sounding like a ska band on steroids or something, then a minute and a half into the song it turns into one of the hardest rock songs you've ever heard. It's perfect. Go look for it at a record store near you or check out: www.themadcapsulemarkets.com for a complete discography, and more info on them.-chux
Dilated PeoplesExpansion TeamUnderground hip-hop
Hip-hop is not just a type of music, it is a way of life, a movement; to some it's practically a religion. But nowadays when using the term to describe music we must be more specific so that people know what they are getting themselves into. This is not a Puff Daddy album, and these guys did not start out as dancers on TV shows or commercials. They're are straight from the L.A. underground and they deserve all the respect for staying so true to their roots. Every song is tight, so I'll give you some of the highlights. Starting out strong, track 2, "Worst Comes To Worst", has one of the dopest beats I've heard in a long time. This beat mixed with their MC'ing skills, makes this song perfect. You won't hear any rapping about bling blingin' or rollin on 20-inch rims, not that there's anything wrong with all that, but hey it's just not what these guys are all about. Track 5 features the Liks on a tight track called "Heavy Rotation". Track 9 is a little tribute to DJ's, featuring, J-Rocc, Rhettmatic and Melo-D. Get your real hip-hop fix with this CD.
