Crossfire VRA1000D - Review Amplifier

Reined in a little, the sub seemed to have no lower frequency limit at all. From Bass Mekanik sine bombs and sweeps, to the very end of "Planet Krypton" on my old CAN CD, it just kept shaking the car far below the audible range. The sealed box makes this super-low response possible. Running a ported box more than 6 to 10Hz below the port tuning frequency is a recipe for disaster. The box may have made it possible, but the amp does all the work, and this amp did all the work. Maybe it was just the surplus of power, but even when my poor subwoofer was crashing its suspension, it never sounded loose. The drum kicks from Robben Ford's "Talk To Your Daughter" were tight and authoritative, ditto on the Donald Fagen tracks "Kamakiriad" and "Snowbound."

ConclusionThis amplifier drove my subwoofer with a powerful feel to it. It's also very efficient (88 percent at full power)-something to consider if you don't really want to rebuild your car's electrical system. At $660, the dollars-to-watts ratio is 58 cents per watt. That's higher than most Class AB amplifiers with similar output, but everything about this amplifier says reliable quality. This probably won't be your first subwoofer amplifier, but if you're ready to step up the quality of your system, you'll appreciate this one.
