Bose created a new infotainment system that will debut in the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti - a great way to make sure people pay attention. Obviously, the company isn't worried that the car will overshadow the system. Judging from the pics, you can see how well one complements the other. The Bose media system integrates entertainment, navigation, communication and information while using the standard car radio layout with a two-knob design.
The system has the uMusic intelligent playback system (see more below), a multi-disc player, advanced Bose tuner, navigation system, Bluetooth, a 6.5-inch screen and iPod and USB 2.0 connectivity. The system supports AM/FM/TV and satellite radio reception.
Surround SoundThe Ferrari houses 11 high-performance speakers that provide surround sound playback, including three 3.25" Twiddler mid/high-range speakers atop the dash panel. The speaker system is acoustically customized to the 12-cylinder Ferrari's cabin.
Hands-FreeThe voice recognition software on the new system makes it easier for the driver to enjoy a safe ride with no distractions. Another innovative technology feature consists of a passenger-side knob equipped with a proximity sensor that reacts and responds to a user's reach by displaying lists of information without contact.
MusicThe Music system, which was originally designed for home audio, selects a random playlist of songs from those stored on the system's hard drive. The driver then chooses his or her favorite music and the system learns what kind of music is preferred. uMusic then automatically makes selections for the driver based on these preferences. The song selections become more refined with each use.
The Bose media system allows playback from almost any optical disc. This includes CDs, DVDs and storage formats such as MP3. The multi-format disc player adjusts the audio for better sound quality, regardless of the format. In addition, the system automatically plays music from the highest available resolution and channel count.
For radio lovers, the new media system reduces the interference for RF reception using new Bose proprietary tuner technology. Bose's media player features a background tuner that monitors the frequency band for strong stations, minimizing the driver's need to seek a clearer station.
And while this system is one of the first of its kind, die-hard fanatics will have to shell out close to $300,000 to own a slice of electronic heaven. Currently, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is the only vehicle equipped with the Bose infotainment system. Sounds like a fair deal to us.
