The Audiobahn ABP122N is a dual 12" subwoofer system in a tuned bandpass enclosure. The enclosure is constructed of MDF with a tapered front and back face wrapped in black carpet. A 3/8" acrylic window is located on one face of the box between a pair of chrome capped air vents displaying the 50-ounce strontium magnets capped with chrome magnet covers and flame designed baskets. Power handling of the system is 800 watts RMS with a high sensitivity of 103dB. The total package measures 15" x 33" x 17 5/8" and weighs a hefty 70+ pounds.
Installation
The Audiobahn subwoofer setup was integrated into the factory system of a '01 Honda Accord. Installation took less than five minutes thanks to the detailed instruction manual filled with color pictures and a full audio glossary. A pair of threaded terminal cups provide installation flexibility that allows for a variety of amplifier configurations. An additional spring-loaded terminal cup can be connected to a 12-volt source to highlight the chrome baskets with an internal blue neon light. The ABP122N carries the industry standard 1-year warranty based on time of purchase.
Listening
The listening audition proved to be considerably impressive. The ABP122N provided sufficient performance on all audio aspects. Output was rock solid as the bandpass enclosure continued to pump out swelling bass notes, which proved to be the system's strong point. The high sensitivity of the ABP122N is a definite plus as it provided thunderous bass with approximately 500 watts. Everything that I threw at the ABP122N was reproduced with ease. Forceful, punchy and downright nasty at times, the ABP122N proved to be the total package, demonstrating nice response and acoustical characteristics. There was slight enclosure resonance that occurred during some material, but after an additional tweak to the crossover, the system was full steam ahead.
Conclusion
The Audiobahn ABP122N is a bass head's dream. Powerful output, quick response and low-end extension make the ABP122N a guaranteed winning upgrade to any audio system in dire need of quality low-end performance. The only downfall to the subwoofer package is the size of the enclosure, which limits install options. If you have the space and the pockets to drop the MSRP of $429.99, the Audiobahn ABP122N should strongly be considered.
