Eagle OneDetailing a car is important especially if you attend shows where a good impression can count for a lot. Detailing can be done faster and easier than most people think. If you have the knowledge of how professional detailers do it and use products specially formulated for all areas of the car you can do it yourself. The experts at Eagle One, makers of an extensive line of premium appearance car products, offer the following professional tips:
Use a brisk side-to-side motion, not downward pressure, when removing wax or polish. Downward pressure can cause scratching. Also, make sure you turn your towel frequently to keep a clean surface in contact with the paint.
Treat side moldings and plastic trim while wax or polish is hazing. This way, when you remove the wax residue, any dressing that inadvertently got on the paint will be wiped off with the wax.
When applying wax or polish, take some foam wax applicator pads and cut them into different shapes. This will enable you to get into tight areas without getting wax all over other parts. You will also find that foam applicator pads spread wax much more evenly than towels.
Make sure your wheels are cool before applying wheel cleaner. Heat accelerates chemical reactions which can cause wheel cleaner to dry prematurely and leave unsightly stains.
To help protect your wheels from the ravages of nature and brake dust, apply a coat of car polish and wax.
When cleaning glass, wipe in a side-to-side motion on the outside and up-and-down on the inside. This will enable you to determine where streaks are coming from. Use a quality auto glass cleaner and towels that are used only for cleaning windows.
Use a premium car wash soap to wash your car. Never use dish washing detergent as they are designed to remove grease from pots and pans and will also strip the wax from your paint finish.
It's easy to make a detailing brush that will make it easy to remove wax from emblems, body trim, tail light fixtures and interior pieces. Simply take a 1.5-inch or 2-inch wide paint brush and cut the bristles in half. Put electrical tape around the metal part. To ensure that the bristles do not scratch, wipe them against some sand paper to "flare the tips."
Difficult water spots in paint or on glass can often be removed with a soft terry towel spot dampened with white vinegar.
To keep your paint finish looking great between waxing, use a spray and wipe, quick detailing product.
