Rockwilder was our second music artist to hit the cover for 2001. With the help of DJ EV to coordinate the party in the Hamptons, Unique Autosports tossed us a party platter ready for picking. Sermon for the main course and Parrish was a bonus!
The play list:Erick came out to "the Rockwilder" beat, and then he did "E.R.I.C.K." featuring Slick Rick. Then Erick stopped the music and announced Parrish on stage to the surprise of us all! The crowd went nuts! Are we going to see a return of EPMD? Erick hypes the crowd to get ready for 2002! An EPMD reunion before our eyes and they jump into "It's My Thang," followed by "You Gots to Chill," and "So Whatcha Sayin." ILL CLASSICS, son! History revisited and brought to life again! Then they did the concert style crowd hype to "The Goodness." Then they played some other hip hop tracks, but not just any tracks - music that he made for majors such as 2pac and JayZ and others just to keep the crowd in check with the knowledge. Erick finished it off with his #1 billboard smash hit of the summer "Music".
Area: One FestivalHot Products, Site Bytes, Industry News, Events And HappeningsIn the same way that Lollapalooza redefined the notion of music festivals and opened the door for awareness and acceptance of alternative music a decade ago, the goal of AREA: ONE is to bring together the best in music. Moby explained about the festival, "My reason for putting together AREA: ONE is that there is a lot of music in the world that I love that does not always get the appropriate exposure." This event was a success along with the fifteen other stops in North America that began on July 11th in Atlanta. The concert in Los Angeles on August 5th was the final event. A great achievement for Moby and partners' SFX.com after the music industry at large said it could not be done. Moby's concept was to take different genres of music and put a festival together in "one" show.
Ron Burnett of Kicker tipped us off to the show and how they were working in conjunction with Ford. This past year Ford has been very aggressive in capturing the youth market. At the AREA: ONE festivals, Ford hosted a second stage inside a large pavilion built by groovejet.com complete with two Focus hatchbacks with full stereo systems using Kicker square Solo-Baric subs and amps putting out 4,000 slammin' watts! These two cars sat at the entrance and exit. In a high-tech atmosphere decorated with laser lights, fog machines and hyper-graphics that one might normally see at such rave events they had even greater impact. This Ford Focus pavilion hosted a group of headline DJs such as our very own Jason Bentley of 89.9 KCRW.org, an independent radio station located in Santa Monica College. Jason has been one of the major forces behind independent music for us on the West Coast, much like URB magazine has been the magazine of choice for more of the underground music scene. While Jason B. may have been one of the first to play such records by Moby and Goldie, URB Magazine was definitely the first U.S. based music mag to introduce us to Moby and Goldie! Others on the lineup included the world-renowned Timo Maas, The Orb, and Paul Oakenfold.
