Clarion
Power System Processors
Clarion's new line of Power System products includes three processors. With an easy user interface, they are compatible with most systems. Offering auxiliary inputs for system expansion and level controls that can mirror the levels of the radio or those of past functions, these processors are designed to match Clarion's source unit face plates. The MDC360 (shown) offers three-way crossover and a remote adjustable bass control with which users may alter the system's bass input from the interior of the car. The EQS560 is a 5-band equalizer that allows adjustable bass boost and subwoofer crossover. That feature can also be found on the PEQ460, a 4-band equalizer on which users can modify the pre-set frequencies for more bass boost or cut. Pioneer Electronics
Premier Reference Series Speakers
Pioneer Electronics has introduced a new line of Premier Reference Series speakers. The TS-W12PRS is a 12-inch, dual 4-ohm voice coil subwoofer; the TS-M7PRS is a 6-3/4-inch midrange driver; and the latter is complemented by a 1-1/4-inch tweeter, the TS-T3PRS. The new PRS speakers are meant to be used with the successful PRS amplifiers introduced in 1999 and were designed for competitors and audio enthusiasts who demand accurate sound reproduction and high power. The subwoofer features the exclusive Voice Coil Cooling System (VCCS), an advanced technology that lowers the operating temperature of the voice coil up to 100F. Pioneer's VCCS acts like the heat sink of an amplifier, in this case drawing the heat away from the speaker's voice coil. The result is very tight and accurate bass, improved frequency response, a significant decrease in distortion, and increased SPL. The 6-3/4-inch midrange features the Symmetrical Balanced Surround, a Pioneer innovation. The rolled surround is divided into six sections; each inverted from the other, allowing the cone to travel in a linear fashion in either direction. To produce the critical high frequency range, Pioneer developed the TS-T3PRS tweeter. It features a 1-1/4 inch polyester soft dome and an anti-resonant sealed chamber to help lower frequency response. This allows the tweeter to play as low and 1.5 kHz, with a recommended crossover frequency of 3 kHz. The frequency response matches perfectly to the TS-M7PRS, and improves imaging and staging.
