As part of our 20th anniversary retrospective, we're showcasing some of our favorite vehicles of the past two decades. You'll be able to vote on your favorite car later. Here's another stunner for which to choose from.
When Bermudan club owner, Tubby O'Connor, saw an outrageous vehicle with a top-notch audio system on his small island, his mind danced with possibilities of owning his own. After settling on a 2000 Renault Magane, he shipped the car to Audio Excellence in Orlando, FL for a first-rate install.
Once you get past the striking paint job, a unique blend of Pearl Orange, Raspberry Red and Sunset Yellow, the quality sound system is hard to ignore. The door panels were removed and completely remanufactured from scratch and outfitted with JL Audio XR653-CS three-way components. Once housed in the door, the 6-1/2", 4" and tweeter were highlighted with the exterior color-scheme using fiberglass. On each corner of the dash, JL Audio TR350-CX 3-1/2" coaxials were installed to further enhance the height of the front stage. The rear panels also carry JL Audio XR653-CS components.

A pair of JL Audio 12W7's handles attention-grabbing low-end frequencies. The team used fiberglass to construct the enclosure with an internal volume of 3.2 cubic feet. From the rear of the vehicle, when the hatch door is open, you can view the back half of the subwoofers through 3/4" thick, bubble-shaped acrylic. Making this piece even more impressive is that for a thick piece of acrylic, curved on all edges, there are no distortions! How did they do it? Well, Audio Excellence wants to keep this information under wraps for now. Sorry. All secrets aside, the car fit O'Connor's specifications and, undoubtedly, has no problem catching eyes as it zips around on island roads.
