During the installation of the system Roberts drove this car everyday for almost a year after the center drive conversion was made. "I love listening to things like Crystal Method in there; it sounds awesome. Actually just sitting in the xB and watching a movie is way better than watching it in my house!" The granite floors and the soft material of the upholstery are bound to make anyone feel right at home. For the curious, Roberts says the floor weighs only 138 pounds. "I get that question a lot, it's not as much as some might think."
Roberts dabbled in dB Drags about five years ago but wasn't a big show competitor until the XB came along. His first foray into national competition was in 2007 when he took home top honors at one of our Trifecta events and followed that up with a second place finish at the Trifecta show during SEMA. His handiwork caught the eye of Alpine, which invited the 25-year-old whiz kid to work on the company's next demo ride-a profound honor for any installer/fabricator.
The XB is a "goal attained" and Roberts is looking forward to the next car and the next challenge.
Driver Profile
Chris Roberts got his foot in the door the old-fashioned way. In 1998, as he was buying his first stereo the owner happened to offer him a job sweeping the floors and cleaning the shop. Fast-forward a decade and his two-tone '05 Scion xB serves as a witness to how far Roberts has come.
