The other half of the component set's speakers are the tweeters, which Zamora installed into the kick panels. "Kicks were cut out in a triangular design that flows with the dash," Carter says, "and then grille cloth was stretched over the tweeters." Moving back into the cabin, we come across Carter's favorite part of the install, the rear deck. Originally, the deck had a hole for the factory 8" sub amplifier. Since that was the first thing to go out the window, the deck had to be redone. The hole now serves as a vent to the subs in the trunk and the deck overall holds pods for a set of Zapco i-6.2 speakers. For a clean aesthetic, Zamora wrapped the newly modified deck in vinyl that is a spot-on match to the factory leather.
Thanks to a SAVV AVM-X5030F mounted under the passenger seat, Carter can switch his video sources with ease. Backing up the SAVV rearview mirror/3.5-inch monitor is a pair of SAVV HRM78 headrests. Even though he hasn't changed his power source, Carter did up the power storage with two Optima YellowTop batteries and an Alumapro Cap 15 in the spare tire well. Stinger circuit breakers and power cable run the juice, though Carter went with JL Audio for the speaker cable and Hooker Audio for the interconnects. Two Zapco products provide the amplification: a 650.6 runs the mids and highs while a C2K 9.0 handles sub duties. The vinyl-wrapped beauty panel that trims them in also hides what they mount to, the sub enclosure.
Hidden between the rear seats and the amplifiers in the trunk, a 2.85ft3 sealed MDF enclosure holds two Fi Q subwoofers. Zamora bolted the 12-inchers directly to the acrylic face and the mirror in the rear of the box gives the appearance that it holds four of the subs, which "are some of the smoothest I have heard," Carter enthuses. "I wanted a very precise, accurate, smooth bass. I feel we hit that goal right on the head."
The build, which cost in excess of $10,000, required "lots and lots of work to achieve the factory look that was desired," Carter reveals. "It blends so well, it looks like a simple install, but in my opinion was 10 times harder to achieve the look than the bling on most systems."
