Second Time Around
For example, taking cue from the Fishman gauge pod, Kitching fashioned the swooping cowl for the monitors in front of the car. Since he needed to get as many TVs as possible into the build, he took off the sideview mirrors and replaced them with Pyle PLVS720N's. The center rearview mirror replacement is particularly impressive, with a Pyle PLCM20 camera embedded at center, which feeds the rearview onto two flanking monitors. Constructed primarily of molded PVC pipe, Kitching made this piece reflect the silver-painted bridge that holds the crossovers in the rear.
Room For Improvement
A lot of Kitching's task involved remolding the existing panels for new product, and in the case of the subwoofer enclosure (which was originally vinyl-wrapped), improving fitment for the new painted finish. Overhead, he put Lanzar amps back in the original amps' position. He also added a Playstation 2 and a Mac mini computer system with 15-inch touchscreen. Fishman's original motorized 20-inch monitor and design for 15" subs stayed in play, but Kitching also added five Pyle PLDVD132s DVD players to the hatch. With this many sources, video switching is paramount. A four-zone system and a Mac mini enable all the monitors to playdifferent visuals.
Originally, Colello's Corbeau seat was nice, but certainly not ultra custom. Kitching took the build to another level by tearing it down and building a new one-off chair from the Corbeau brackets up. Primarily constructed of MDF and bendable wood, the seat gets its strength from fiberglass (and a steel rod inserted down the spine after the chair was damaged in transit). To get a puffed-out appearance with the headrest, Kitching used air pressure to semi-inflate the unset fiberglass. The trick worked wonderfully on this Ultrasueded seat.
