Front Stage:The Kenwood DDX7019 monitor with its 7-inch touchscreen makes life easy and, thanks to Scosche, it was flawlessly installed into the dash without any modifications. Kenwood's XXV-04S 25th Anniversary speakers were installed with some modification due to the large size of the tweeter and midbass drivers. Morse built new tweeter pods because the factory pods couldn't accommodate the depth of the hefty tweeter magnet. A wood template was constructed first and then reinforced with fiberglass and smoothed over with Duraglas. The final touch was made with SEM texture coat paint to replicate the factory look.
The door speakers were one of the most difficult aspects of the installation. The Kenwood 6.5" drivers not only required custom spacers to allow the motor structure to clear the window track but also modification of the actual door panel and even the drivers themselves. The spacers were constructed of MDF and doubled as baffles to close the open holes left by the odd shape of the factory speakers. MDF baffles were also created to install Kenwood eXcelon coaxial speakers in the rear door.
Stealthy Rear:Two Kenwood amplifiers (a KAC-X541 and KAC-X812D), a Kenwood KNA-G510 navigation unit and two large Kenwood 25th Anniversary crossovers needed to be placed in the trunk, but the exposed nature of a hatchback vehicle's trunk requires that they be hidden from view and unobtrusive to the cargo area. To retain access to the spare tire and add an amprack required some space-saving ingenuity. The spare tire mount was modified to allow the spare to be mounted upside down.
