2001 Toyota SequoiaFor skater, Caine Gayle, it's all about the action. Appropriately enough, the skateboard specific shoemaker, Axion, sponsors the proud owner of this Toyota Sequoia. Caine is one of the most highly respected professional skateboarders in the industry known for his technical tricks and down to earth attitude. Over the past 13 years, Caine's skating career has really paid off. His style and creativity have landed him a handful of additional sponsors like City Stars, LRG, Nixon, Odyssey Backpacks, Venture, and RDS. These are the sponsors that pay for his butt to get up every day (even if it is three in the afternoon) and do what he loves to do, skate. Caine has competed and placed well in numerous professional competitions, ranging from X Games, X Trials, B3 and Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding. Caine has also appeared recently in a number of skate videos, including Street Cimema (by City Stars), IE (by Transworld Video) and assorted 411 videos. Quite an exceptional list of accomplishments for a humble kid from Jacksonville Florida.
Caine's first vehicle was a '76 Toyota Corolla. Believe it or not, his Corolla was the start of an obsession with import cars, one that quickly progressed into Hondas. Caine's obsession continues today, as his daily driver is a '95 Honda Civic hatchback with a subtly built Prelude motor in it. But owning a Honda is not enough for Caine. His latest skateboards are styled with "DOHC VTEC" logos, cross section of motors, and car graphics.
Where skating ends, his underlying passion for cars begins. With Caine's Civic near race status, performance cars like this sometimes prove not be the most reliable. This is an issue Caine has had to deal with since his profession requires him to drive to several locations every day. Choosing a reliable vehicle was an inevitable decision Caine would have to make.
Caine shares his knowledge, know how and passion for cars with his beautiful long-time girlfriend, Sabrina Peck. As relationships will have it, big decisions such as purchasing a car become a joint effort. Caine and Sabrina wanted something BIG to haul all of his skate gear. So, choosing an SUV named after a giant tree seemed appropriate, a Sequoia. Dressing up the mammoth SUV was the first priority, so the stock rollers were tossed aside for some spicy wheels, BIG ONES at that! The Sequoia now rolls on 20" MAIDO rims (distributed by Dazz Motorsports) surrounded by 295-45/20 Falken tires. What looks like a timid SUV has been made into a sporty platform for some serious car audio products. Keep one thing in mind when you look at this stereo and the whole package, actions speaks louder than words. As mentioned earlier, Caine is about action, and keeping the car functional and factory looking. This is a style he has integrated into all of his vehicles, placing the stickers on his skateboard and not his cars. It was like pulling teeth, putting stickers on his new vehicle, but in the end Caine knows how to maintain good relations with the sponsors.
He is still very touchy about his cars in every way and when Caine was ready to install the stereo in his latest project, he contacted the boys he knows and trusts. His long time friends, Spencer Stewart and Jason Bourgoin of One Track Mind in Encinitas, California, who have been installing stereos and reworking the interior on all his Hondas. The stereo system is centered around an Eclipse AV5101 head unit with 6.5" monitor that keeps the passengers eyes peeled as they watch the last skate flick in DVD. In the lifestyle industry, it's all about status. Hidden out of view, DVD video images are played via an Anaba ADV608 DVD player. As Caine often carries a crew of passengers in the SUV, not everybody can sit up front to see the screen, so there are two MA2156 5.6-inch monitors snuggled into the leather headrests of the front seats to extend the visual experience to the rear.
