Should you have a firsthand look at the rear cargo area you would notice very little at all. Upon further inspection audiophiles will appreciate tastefully integrated components. Rockford Fosgate He2 12" subs are mounted in a custom enclosure built of 3/4-inch MDF and fibreglass forming the mold to the spare tire well. The top of the enclosure is covered in factory matching beige vinyl with a cloth grille. It has a hard cover as well for daily cargo hauling, protecting the woofers from harm. The enclosure top also contains the Pioneer XDV-P9 DVD player, mounted face-up. Rockford Fosgate amplifiers are mounted in the side storage compartments with clear Lexan covers emblazoned with the BMW Roundel logo. At night a neon black light highlights the custom amplifier installation.
The equipment, including all the above gear and complete Lightning Audio interconnect, cable and accessories would come to approximately $6500. Installation was $4200 and took about one week to finish. While the total cost isn't as much as we've seen with some installations, Adam maintains that the system wasn't built around a dollar figure, but rather what he wanted out of the system and his vehicle. The price was simply a number upon completion.
Adam plans on making some usability upgrades as well. The factory steering wheel's audio controls will be adapted to work with his system, and the Pioneer head unit/monitor may be replaced as technology improves. Adam loves the power delivery and sound of the Rockford components and enjoys the stealth appearance.
By keeping it lean and mean this system is the ultimate setup for this particular ultimate driving machine. At least for Adam. While Adam could have gone overboard with mega power and custom installation, he chose to keep the vehicle fully functional and fully enjoyable. I believe he didn't take the wrong path.
