Vovlo S70
You can appreciate a good sound system anywhere, but no where as much as on a long ride on a lonely highway. That's exactly what Teddy Surya likes to do, drive to California, listening to tunes on his digital audio system. His Volvo S70 received the full treatment from Chad Peterson. He installed the Pioneer ODR RSD2 head unit, a 12-disc CD changer and the ODR RSP1 equalizer, which is mounted in the spare tire well of the trunk. Surya competes in a low power class, and went with Focal Xpert 7 kx midbass drivers and their t3x Supertweeters. Peterson modified the kick panels. For a smoother response and extra control over the drivers each panel was membraned. There are two subwoofers in the Volvo: a pair of Illusion Audio 10-inch speakers in an aperiodic enclosure. Blue neon highlights the subs from behind. For power Surya stuck with Pioneer with five of their ODR series amplifiers. An active competitor, Surya has taken first place in a few IASCA events.
Porsche 911
Native Californian Raschid Shah was instinctively attracted to sound competition at a young age. After putting together what he felt was the loudest Nissan Setnra in high school, Shah was hooked. This beautiful white Porsche 911 features more Alpine sound and multimedia equipment than you might think. This includes a multimedia system with two monitors, CD changer, navigation system, DVD player, three amps, five sets of component speakers and two subs. And if this wasn't enough, a Sega Dreamcast player was somehow thrown in for good measure. This install represents great planning and execution.
Chevy Silverado
The outrageous audio and video system in Frank Sbrocca Jr.'s truck almost didn't happen. "When I first bought my truck, I told all my friends I wouldn't make any modifications to it. However, three months after I said that, I had the truck in the shop, giving it the full treatment." In Frank's case, the "full treatment" included a truck bed full of car audio goodies to match the cab full of equipment. The brains of the operation is an Eclipse multimedia head unit controlling a Clarion TV tuner, 15-inch flat screen monitor, Panasonic DVD player and Eclipse CD player. Two large Image Dynamics EQs balance the sound from seven Xtant amps. A total of four crossovers, four component sets, eight speakers and two 10-inch subs are all Diamond Audio.
Volkswagon GTI
The last time we saw Jonathan Frank's Volkswagon GTI it was for sale, so it may currently be in another owner's hands. If so, the new owner is enjoying a nicely balanced, yet powerful system featuring a Clarion Auto PC. Highlights of this system include a Clarion EQ, Crossfire amps, Esoteric six-channel amp, a set of Diamond Audio component speakers, two Diamond Audio speakers and a pair of Diamond Audio 12-inch woofers. Frank works with Diamond's Tiff connector line and you will find Tiff pieces throughout.
