Chevrolet Suburban
The Cigarette Racing Team holds several world championships in off-shore boat racing. The company likes to call their boats "Kings of the Water." Based on a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, the goal was to give this SUV the same power and elegance you would find in a Cigarette racing boat. Christened the "King of the Road" this SUV is packed with equipment from Alpine in the form of monitors, DVD player, CD changer and Navigation. Up front, a JL Audio amp provides the power for a pair of JL 3-way components. The rear doors house a pair of JL Audio coaxials. In the back, a matching JL amp is connected to a 10-inch dual voice coil subwoofer. All in all, a very worthy vehicle to tow your Cigarette boat with!
Lexus RX300
Tampa, Florida's Louie Almanza purchased his 1999 Lexus RX300 back in '98. Back then, the vehicle was fairly new on the block and a "must have" for those who could afford it. At the time, a Lexus with a full arsenal of car audio equipment was a rare creature indeed. And so Almanza took the RX300 in for the installation of a Clarion multimedia controller and CD player, connected to a Clarion 6-disc changer located in the glovebox. Up front, there is a pair of JL Audio speakers, along with a set of tweeters. Equalization happens via a Zapco 5-band unit, along with two of their 30-band EQ's. A JL mid-bass speaker can also be found in each of Lexus' four doors. Out back, a total of six 12-inch JL subs lower the boom, powered by a pair of Zapco amps. A third Zapco amp is split between the front stage and midbass speakers. All in all this is a 150 dB Lexus that creates its own house party!
Chevy Tahoe
When Chris Darte purchased a brand new 1999 Chevy Tahoe around the time of Thanksgiving in 1998 he knew that he wanted to do something that was different than all of his previous systems. So he went to Mobile One in Slidell, Louisiana to talk to Eric Hunn. Together they chose components to fit the needs of the Tahoe and then Darte left the rest to Hunn, who came up with all of the designs. Hunn created a multimedia monster, loading up the Tahoe with Alpine gear for music and DVD capabilities, a Sony PlayStation, as well a couple of 6.5-inch monitors, installed in each headrest for the rear passengers. The Tahoe also features Rockford Fosgate amplifiers and subwoofers, Boston Acoustics for the front stage, and four Optima 800 batteries. When your vehicle is this big and loud you need powerful backup. With the sound taken care of future upgrade plans are for the exterior and engine compartment. As for upgrades for the multimedia system - that may have to wait for the next cool toy to hit the market.
