What started as a repair to system problems and an upgrade of the dash's screen soon turned into an all-around upgrade for Marcus Haislip's 2003 H2 Hummer. The 6' 10" power forward let Andrew Schroeder of Project Two Customs design and build the perfect system to suit his needs.
In the front, an Alpine IVA-C801 was mounted on custom-welded aluminum brackets to secure the unit. The 10.4-inch screen in the center stack is a Savv LTV-1040 screen. Also in the front is an Alpine TME-M580 5.8-inch LCD screen that displays images from the Savv VAC-RV5000NC backup camera.
An Alpine DHA-S680 6-disc DVD changer was flush mounted into the center console beneath the armrest. "Fabricated steel brackets hold the rebuilt center console to the vehicle's floor and are sturdier than the factory brackets to provide a vibration-free mount for the changer,"Schroeder explains. The center console and dash panel were later finished in factory color paint to match the rest of the vehicle's interior.
A few Phoenix Gold amplifiers provide enough power for this 5.1 video system. A couple Ti 1200.1 amps are mounted on either side of the sub enclosure and power a pair of JL Audio 12W7 subs. A Ti 500.4 powers the front and rear speakers and a Ti 400.2 powers the center channel speakers. Both amps and an XBOX are mounted underneath the rear seat and concealed by stitched black leather and edged with ostrich.
The sub enclosures are especially impressive. "The enclosure was built to simulate a basketball court," Schroeder says. The basketball color and texture were "painstakingly airbrushed by a local artist to stimulate the grip and texture of a basketball."
Perhaps Haislip's favorite part of the upgrade is the Procharger D1SC Supercharger. "The vehicle now makes 562 hp, dropping the quarter mile time by three full seconds even after the addition of all audio equipment,"Schroeder boasts. So when Haislip isn't watching movies or playing video games in his car, he'll definitely be flying down the street.
