So here I am talking about the greatness of enjoying music in your car and then I see the article in Rolling Stone talking about the end of the age of the audiophile. Maybe they're right. It seems everyone is more concerned with quantity than quality, using their iPods or other music players, converting files at low bitrates, and then connecting them to the systems in their cars with subwoofers in the wrong size boxes, making trunks rattle and thus annoying people in the neighborhood. We've talked numerous times about the SQ issue, and now the mainstream press is proclaiming the death of sound quality. I have a feeling though that this is all cyclical. Eventually libraries of music will be all too easy and the fashion will fade; and once again people will want the best quality and not the most files. At least that's what I hope. We'll have to wait and see-or hear.
Nextmonth
As you can see, the Directory has been divided into sections to run in different issues during the summer. This month we focus on source units, navigation, and video. Next issue we'll present the listing for speakers/subwoofers, followed by amps the following month. Our apologies to readers for any inconvenience this may cause, as we nonetheless continue to provide comprehensive coverage of car audio products and culture.
